Technology Reflections

Technology Reflection Assignment

Description/Experience

I learned that technology has become a big part of our society. It would be hard, nowadays, to go through a do without using some kind of technology like a computer or cell phone. Of course there are many more kinds of technology, but those two are the most common that someone uses on a daily bases. As technology becomes a common use of our everyday lives growing students will need to be taught how to use them as well. What better place for them to learn than in the classroom. EdModo was a new, interactive way for the teacher to assign work for the students. I also liked how the students could communicate and help one another out, in or out of school. This website wouldn’t be possible without the availability of computers.

Application

I would create an assignment where the students had to label bones in the body to learn them and their location.

  • They students would be able to learn where the bones were, the names of the bones and see on a diagram where the bones are located.
  • This activity would be for students in the third or fourth grade
  • They would have to search through other sources to find the names of the bones and be able to label the bone in their correct location. As we continue learning about bones in class we would review the bones and if they had learned the names they would be able to name them as we continuously reviewed.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher will create a diagram of the human body
  2. Add lines from bones for labeling
  3. Upload document to EdModo
  4. Have students login to EdModo
  5. Open document
  6. Complete activity while using textbook or internet sources
  7. Upload document to EdModo for assignment for completion/accuracy grade
  8. Review bones learned from activity

Reflection

Considering your learning activity described above, write a paragraph for each section below addressing the questions. It may be helpful to think about how the use of technology may influence or be influenced by different aspects of teaching and learning.

Pedagogy-Content:

  • This activity would introduce the new material on bones. They would learn the names of the bones through other sources they would use. Fo example, the students would begin to understand that their leg is made up of many bones and they all work together to allow us to bend our legs, for movement, allowing us to walk and run. As they found the names of the bones in the book, the definition of each bone would be found there too.
  • Depending on the students knowledge learned previously to this lesson, some students have learned this material beforehand. Some students may also need some assistance finding the names of the bones in other sources.

Technology:

  • It would allow the students to do the assignment on a separate document and upload it to turn it in. It would allow the students to help one another, like where can I find where the femur is located? Then another student could respond with a page number.
  • It is an easy website to find and when the students have accounts they can login from any computer. Therefore, the assignments can be viewed at school or at home when the students have time to complete the assignments that the teacher has posted.

Technology-Pedagogy:

  • The assignment would be viewed through website, the activity is downloaded from it and the students will upload the completed assignment. The students can also talk to one another through EdModo with postings.
  • Instead of lecturing about the bones to introduce the lesson the students learn on their own from using the computer and internet sites as their sources. They also learn ways of finding answers they need by searching the internet.
  • The students need to use the computer for their assignment and not abuse their internet privileges. They’re given the time to do an assignment and not be treating that technology poorly. The teacher will monitor the students as they do the activity in class time. Even outside of class and school the teacher and see what the student does on EdModo and what they post. If the student is using the website inappropriately or in ways no accepted by the school then further disciplinary action will come afterwards.

Technology-Content:

  • The students could learn more about the content through internet sources than the teacher would talk about in a lecture. They could view videos or see illustrations on websites or could learn ways of remembering the content through poems or songs.
  • They’re learning the material on their own instead of hearing a lecture, but they’re also learning new skills by using the computer. By searching, learning, and completing the activity they will learn the bones and their location and by seeing it in a picture they will be able to remember it for later use.

Technology-Pedagogy-Content:

  • They’re using technology to incorporate the activity and learning by using sources on the internet and it would be effective because its only introducing material that will be built upon in the future lessons.
  • It’s a different way to teach, almost like the students are teaching their selves. The website is also user friendly. It resembles facebook, so the tools of the website and easily understood.
  • The use of the website will be good to use every now and then. But like my activity, it would be used to do an introduction and maybe some review, but more important sections of the material would be learned by lectures or demonstrations depending on the class age. I would want my students to achieve some knowledge from the activity and website/technology and I would make sure they were by completing assignments and accuracy of the answers.
